Hi! I’m Heather. Thanks for coming by!
I can never remember not wanting to be a teacher. I was one of those girls who lined up her dolls and stuffed animals to teach them how to do math problems, highlighted book passages and made comprehension quizzes, and created fake class lists and gradebooks. That’s not weird. At all.
When I was a teenager, I read One Child by Torey Hayden, and I knew right away that I wanted to teach in a self-contained classroom, too. I was placed in an MD class for my student teaching, stayed there as an aide for a year after, and then left that position to be an aide in my dream school, a special ed school with a wonderful (well-deserved) reputation. Finally, right before the beginning of my fourth year, someone retired, and I was lucky enough to get the position teaching high school students. My school, and most importantly, the kids, are amazing! I can’t imagine being anywhere else.
I have a nine year old son, a crazy dog, and an even crazier bunny who thinks he is an attack dog.
I hope you find something useful on here!
